DAY 20

SECOND MILE

Our inspiration today is illustrated by the story of a small boy who was sent by his mother to pick a quart of raspberries; he did not like picking raspberries. But his Mother had spoken, so he made his way slowly, reluctantly toward the raspberry patch. Then a happy thought came to his mind. Why not pick two quarts and surprise his Mother. Suddenly a new motivation of love dissolved his strong dislike for picking berries. He could hardly wait to see the surprise on his Mother"s face, when he showed her the extra quart.

The power of a new affection. Paul taught this in Colossians 3. Jesus taught it in the Sermon on the Mount. Its the " second mile" that counts. So often we have the opportunity to love the unlovely, to bless those who strike back or misuse us. The extra mile, that’s not easy at times, but its Christ-like.

Is God getting some extra mileage out of you?

Check Mark 9:41.
